BATTLE TACTIC #5: BATTLE GEAR – MAY 2010

Moving right along with Battle Gear, one of your first decisions when creating your “team” will be choosing your Battle Gear. Now, this can be a fairly simple task, so let’s take a look at your options.

PICKING YOUR BATTLE GEAR

When you’re getting ready to play, you can choose up to two Battle Gear and/or two Bakugan Trap. This means you can pick two Battle Gear, OR two Bakugan Trap, OR one Battle Gear and one Trap.

So which Battle Gear do you choose?

You could just pick the highest G-Power Battle Gear that you have, but using Battle Gear that matches the attributes of your Bakugan can be great too, even if that gear doesn’t have the highest G-Power.

Besides choosing by G-Power, you may want to consider your strategy using your Bakugan attribute(s).

One strategy is to play with all Bakugan of the same attribute: all Ventus or all Sub Terra, for example. Or, since each Battle Gear has special abilities for two different attributes, you can mix and match Bakugan with two different attributes and still get to use the special abilities on your Battle Gear Reference Cards.

Another advantage to picking a two-attribute combo of Bakugan is that you’ll have more flexibility during play. You’ll be able to pick which of your Bakugan to roll based on which of the Battle Gear’s abilities you want!

Choose wisely. Create your ultimate combo. Devastate your opponent.

With so many options, feel free to experiment with different combinations and soon you’ll hone in on the Battle Gear strategy that works best for your Bakugan “team”!

BATTLE GEAR 101

How to Use Your Battle Gear!

The new Series 3 rules incorporate Battle Gear as a vital tool to claim victory on the battlefield. The official rules (download here) allow a brawler to use two special pieces in battle: 2 Battle Gear, 2 Trap, or one of each!

Battle Gear are used to beef up your Bakugan to incredible strength! To play them, simply open them on any standing Bakugan in battle and add the printed G-Power. Next, if your Bakugan’s attribute matches either of the attributes on your Battle Gear Reference Card then you get to use the ability stated! Or, if your Battle Gear matches the color of the Gate Card being battled on, you can choose any one of Reference Card abilities.

Additionally, Battle Gear can be used on ANY Bakugan! If a Battle Gear weapon isn’t designed to fit your Bakugan specifically, you can still use it by opening it on the Gate Card in battle and process the same as mentioned above.

For more information on how to use Battle Gear, check out the Bakugan’s featured article ‘Battle Gear 101: Maximize Your Arsenal’ here.

Now that you’ve learned the Battle Gear basics, you’ll be able to take your game strategy to the next level!

BATTLE TACTIC #3: GATE CARD PLACEMENT – MARCH 2010

Note: We republish these on BakuganTactics.com

Hello again brawlers! Welcome to the third installment of Battle Tactics with BrightLight!

Last month I focused on early placement of specific Gate Cards, so this month I would like to focus on the opposite strategy, late placement. As I’m about to explain, timing is crucial and knowing your Gate Cards well enough to decide when to place them can give you the winning edge.

Gate Card Set!

[DM1] Gate Card Placement, Tip #3: Late Placement

Some Gate cards are clearly best when played late in the game. Cards like Naga [DM2] or Oberus [DM3] are obvious examples. These cards give a bonus for each Ability, or Gate card, in EVERY used pile, an affect that will have a much bigger results when placed later in the game.

Additionally, this strategy can be ridiculously powerful in a 4-player game as the number of used piles and total used cards are up to twice as many as a regular brawl.

So get to know your Gate Cards, and strategize to get the maximum benefit from their affects by thinking about timing.

I hope that this month’s tip will help you in the battlefield, and I look forward to sharing another tip with you next month!

BATTLE TACTIC #2: GATE CARD PLACEMENT – FEBRUARY 2010

Note: We republish these on BakuganTactics.com

Greetings brawlers! Welcome to the second issue of Battle Tactics with BrightLight!

I’m very pleased to share with you one of the most fundamental strategies to keep in mind for your next brawl. Sometimes starting off with your best foot forward can propel you to the winner’s circle and there’s no better time like the present to get started and improve your strategy just in time for BakuCon NYC.

Bakugan brawl!

Gate Card Placement, Tip #2: Early Placement

Some Gate cards can be best used when played early in the game. When you are playing one of these cards, be sure to put it out first and have a plan for what you want to do when you engage in battle on it. A great early placement card is the Copper Gate Card, ‘Rattleoid’. Battling on this card early in the game puts your enemy in an odd situation where they have to dump a bunch of Ability Cards or hold on to them allowing you to get some mega G-Power bonuses. This can be particularly devastating when brawling with the Big Game rules!

As you can see, timing can be everything, so I hope you’ll take this strategy and use it as part of your moves to defeat your opponents!

BATTLE TACTIC #1: GATE CARD PLACEMENT – JANUARY 2010

Note: We republish these on BakuganTactics.com

Welcome to the first issue of Battle Tactics with BrightLight!

I’m very excited to bring you this new article which will be published monthly, highlighting battle strategies for you to hone your brawling skills and become a top brawler. And with Baku-Con just around the corner, there’s no better time than now to develop your brawling tactics!

Let’s get this brawl started with my first strategy tip!

Gate Card Placement: Conditional

The order in which you play your Gate cards is almost as important as which cards you choose to play with. Gate cards are unusual as they don’t necessarily do anything outside of a battle. It’s not until they are actually used in a brawl that you will see their full affect. So, you have to strategically think ahead when playing Gate cards.

Using a card more than once is a great battle tactic! Take for example, the Gate card ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ which allows you to put a used Red Ability card into your unused pile. When using this Gate card you need to make sure that by the time a battle begins on the card that you have a Red Ability card in your used pile. If you are using a Red Ability card with a generic use like ‘Try Again’, which allows you to re-roll any Pyrus, Haos, or Subterra Bakugan, then don’t play ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ until you have already used ‘Try Again’. However, if you are using a Red Ability card like ‘Flames of Light’ then you can play ‘Flybeetle Rescue’ first. Then, use the ‘Flames of Light’ to add a Bakugan to the Gate card when your opponent lands on it.

Using Gate cards and Ability cards in a strategic order is critical to claiming ultimate victory on the battlefield and is one of the most basic but necessary tactics to keep in mind.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my first tip and I can’t wait to share more battle tactics with you each month.
